VICTORIA DE SERGIO VIVANCO EN LA VIP EXTREM

November 3, 2017

Sergio Vivanco’s victory in the VIP Extreme

At the start of the race, I quickly gained leader’s position and started to go up the “La Pena” ascent – very famous for its long climb and continuous high percentage –. With a strong rhythm, we managed to escape with a group of 8 cyclists creating a huge gap.

The rhythm was surprisingly fast being a long marathon race with net increases in altitude. I felt at ease with my teammate and we started taking over, making it easier to follow. At a descent I put myself at the lead and tried pushing for a higher rhythm, but my fellow racers were also going really fast.

The track started to get hard and we started making rhythm changes where we lost 3 racers that had been in the leading group. My legs really started feeling the hardness of the race, the rest of the competitors noticed it too; but we had to stay up front. At kilometre 50 we had already lost most of the cyclists, leaving us in a group of 3, battling for the podium until the very end. The track was beautiful, with technical and fun descents.

We started approaching the village and last kilometres of the race, where the final positions were disputed with a sprint, which was where I made a difference, as my fellow racers were top level and I could not gain real distances during the race.

Thanks to the work we have done these past few weeks with Atilla Ozkan I now find myself at my highest form. I hope to hold it out much longer!
